Setting up the calendar through Google was very easy for me. I didn't even know Google offered this program or any of the programs I saw while looking for the calendar on the Google website. I spent more time looking through all of the free programs it had to offer before making my calendar. Like I said, I had no idea Google had all of this; and I've been telling everyone about it. At the homepage of the calendar, I saw an example of a calendar that had different events that were color coded. So I got very excited and decided that after I created my calendar, I would list not only class project due dates but also my social events and subbing dates. I went to the drop down menu under my calendars and started adding events, but I soon noticed I couldn't change the colors of each different event. I struggled trying to understand how this worked until a light bulb finally clicked on. I had to create different calendars within this one big calendar to color code my different events. In light of this, I created three different calendars: Class Calendar, Social Calendar, and Substitute Calendar. After I started listing my events I saw that they would all show up in the overall calendar color coated.
I love this, because I can easily see which event falls under which category. I'm also a very organized person (I keep a planner on me at all times), and it is nice to have a more electronic view of my life that is a lot easier to organize and see than my planner. Also, I can set it up to remind me of the events a day before they happen so I will remember (that is something my planner cannot do). On my blog, I decided to only allow everyone to see my class calendar with all of the assignment due dates; the other calendars are my events that I don't feel I need to share. This is another thing I had a little difficulty with. I had a hard time finding the html link to my calendar. I soon realized I had to first make it public by sharing it with everyone; and then, I found the link under calendar settings. It just took a little searching, and I finally found it. After I found it, I put the link to my calendar on the right side of my blog. Here is another link to my class calendar.
